Nouilles de Lan Zhou is a focused noodle spot in Montréal’s Chinatown known for its hand-pulled Chinese noodles and rich, comforting broths that echo the flavors of Lanzhou-style beef noodle soup. The restaurant’s specialty revolves around fresh, customizable noodles served in hearty soups or with flavorful toppings like spicy marinated beef shank and preserved vegetables, making it a straightforward but satisfying destination for noodle lovers.

Located on Boul. Saint-Laurent, this casual eatery often draws a steady line at peak lunch hours, especially around midday. The wait can run close to 30 minutes, reflecting its popularity among both locals and visitors seeking authentic Asian noodle dishes. Inside, the atmosphere balances a modern, clean look with cozy, modest seating framed by stone tile accents on the walls. It’s a compact space, so it works best for solo diners, couples, or small groups rather than large parties.

One of the more engaging aspects of Nouilles de Lan Zhou is the visible noodle-making process through the kitchen window. Watching the noodles being hand-pulled and shaped adds an interactive touch that connects diners directly with the craftsmanship behind each bowl. Although the menu doesn’t offer an extensive range of dishes beyond noodles and soups, the quality and freshness stand out clearly.

The food leans into simplicity with balanced flavors—the broths are rich but not overly complex, carrying a homey warmth that pairs well with the texture of the noodles. Spicy options hit the right level of heat, complementing ingredients like beef brisket or vegetables without overwhelming the palate. Complementary small plates such as edamame with preserved vegetables or light salads provide modest variety.

Overall, Nouilles de Lan Zhou suits those in the mood for a no-frills, authentic noodle experience with a cultural edge. It’s a reliable lunch or casual dinner spot where you can appreciate the craft of hand-pulled noodles in a tidy, inviting environment. If you’re visiting during the lunch rush, be prepared for a short wait but expect a rewarding bowl once seated.

First time visiting Montreal and I was on a PHO crawl. I was originally going to eat at the place across the street but I stumbled upon this place with a lineup! Lucky I was solo and got seated real quick. Ate “lan Zhou la main” on the regular when I lived in Shanghai. This was different though. They put their own twist on this classic bowl of noodles. They had different types of noodles and proteins to choose from but what I guess was the crowd pleaser was the portions size! Everybody damn near had some left overs. The broth was flavourful but a little too much msg. The meat was very tender and braised to perfection. Glad I switched up and ate here instead. Yup had some leftovers for that late night snack.

When we first came across this noodle shop, there was a size able line at the entrance. The wait is around 30 minutes at 1pm to get inside. When you get inside, you can see the noodles being made, which is cool! The seating inside is modern and sleek, giving a very cozy fleeting with the stone tiles and walls. With being very clean. Especially the bathroom. Even though seating is small, it is very comfortable. But I suggest big families come ahead of time to find a table. I ordered the vegetable noodle soup, with edamame with preserved vegetable coming out first. Which I gotta say came out with very little persevered vegetable and more just edamame alone. It took 20 min for food to come out. The presentation could’ve been a little better. But the soup broth was very flavorful! I would say though I ordered the small size soup. But the amount of noodles I got were so much! So if you have a light stomach be sure to order small or get ready to take some home! The noodles were rich as well, but the soup lacked many vegetable or plant protein. But that’s to be expected from a noodle specialty shop. I say if you’re vegan or vegetarian expect a lot of soft tender noodles, and I mean a lot. Also for the vegetable soup, it comes with an egg. You can request to not have it. Overall if you like noodles you’ll like this place, but your expecting the soup to have tons of vegetables this isn’t the place

We had an enjoyable lunch at Nouilles de Lanzhou, a restaurant specializing in authentic Lanzhou-style hand-pulled noodles in Montreal’s Chinatown. This restaurant specializes in traditional Chinese hand-pulled noodles and braised beef noodle soup. The noodles are traditionally made fresh for each order. Visitors can watch the noodle-making process through the window. The menu features a variety of affordable options like signature Lanzhou Beef Noodle Soup, Braised Beef Tendon Noodles, Dan Dan Noodles and side dishes such as Spicy Cucumber Salad, Edamame and Seaweed Potato Salad are also available. We ordered the Traditional LanZhou Hand-pull Beef Noodle and Zha Jiang Noodle with Homemade Pork Sauce. Both noodles tasted delicious and flavourful. They noodles tasted fresh with a chewy texture and the broth was light and savoury.

The place is very busy, but worth the wait. Getting to see the noodles being made is pretty cool. The flavours are excellent, the broth is rich and comforting, and the spiciness in the other dishes is just right. Everything comes together nicely in each bowl. A great spot for Chinese noodles!

Amazing noodles and flavor. I had the beef brisket soup, sort of like a Chinese Pho. The noodles are customizable and hand made and the flavor there really shows. Overall flavor is fairly simple but tasty. There are not a lot of options overall, essentially just noodles/soup. Atmosphere is good overall as well, not a bad spot for a date or meetup, though not so great for larger groups. Place is busy and packed but for good reason.

Classic spot in Montreal. Love the noodles. The vegetarian soup is okay, I only wished they’d add some sort of protein to it, such as tofu. Service is very fast. The beef soup is exactly what it’s expected to be.

Simple but delicious! Bonus, there is a grocery store inside/below to grab some things before you leave. A suggestion is that if you are not an big eater choose a thinner noodle. #6 was delicious but a hearty offering.

We were lucky to get a table for 5 people! Resto not busy. We ordered 4 vegie noodle soups and one beef noodle soup. Portion was very generous. We enjoyed all soups. Veggie Broth not as rich as meat Broth but this is why we liked it. Simple and yet still delicious. We love trying diffrent soups.
